October 13th

Lots of birds moving again today and visual migration seemed almost constant. Around 250 Chaffinches went over today, with smaller numbers of Goldfinches though. There were continuing high numbers of Song Thrushes and Robins, at least 30 Fieldfares and so an increase in Blackbirds today.  Between Braye Common, the football pitch and Longis Common at least 30 White Wagtails were present. A Woodcock was seen at Longis, as was the immature Marsh Harrier. Sparrowhawk was recorded at Mannez (where there were 2 or 3), Longis and the suth cliffs. There was at least one unringed Yellow-browed Warbler present at Mannez. There were 3 Bar-tailed Godwits on Braye Beach

Strong easterly winds again meant ringing was only possible at Mannez reserve. On the back of 35 new birds ringed at the same location yesterday, 33 new birds were ringed today including Firecrest and Redwing. Much better ringing conditions are forecast for tomorow.
