November 23rd

Finally a lull in the winds, but not for long…

After several days of very few passerines around, this morning saw another good day of visual migration. Small beer compared to early in the month but still several small flocks of Redwings and Chaffinches through. Also an increase in grounded Blackbirds and Song Thrushes was reflected in a morning ringing session along side warblers still coming through.  37 new birds: 9 Redwings 4 Song Thrushes, 4 Blackbirds, 5 Blackcaps, 2 Chiffchaffs, 1 Dunnock, 2 Wrens, 1 Blue Tit, 5 Chaffinches and 5 Goldfinches. Controls have very few during the Autumn compared to the Spring, today we processed a UK control Goldfinch, a fine adult male.

Back to storm force winds this evening and it appears severe gales for several days ahead.
