Very still conditions this morning and at high tide on Longis beach were 20 Oystercatchers, 2 Whimbrel  1 Curlew and 1 Shelduck. Little Grebes have hatched on Longis reserve pond.

Ringing around Essex Farm saw 19 birds processed as more fledglings continue to appear.

The moth trap was chock-a-block this morning so I was particularly pleased that our local moth expert David was on hand as  yet again there were species I have not seen before. One species that got David excited was the Barrett’s Marbled Coronet pictured below, apparently rather scarce in mainland UK. The last of our 3 national moth night sessions is this evening, it’s already going to be quite a final list of species.
