The gull shown below was photographed this week by the skipper of one of the regular visiting charter angling boats. The Obs team have had a good look at the two shots and we feel it is most likely a leucistic Herring Gull, given the bill pattern and leg colour. However, the rather slender neck lends itself to Lesser Black-backed Gull. I have not known leg colour to change on birds that show colour morphs or aberrations so I think, given the leg colour is correct for Herring Gull, I would consider it most likely this species. Of course it could be a hybrid! Comments welcome.
