31st December

A short round up of an extraordinary 10 months. It has been.. awesome. The ABO annual report is well under way and free to members.

First a round-up of the last week. Our main event was an end of year presentation held at the AWT conference room. We were fully booked and many thanks to those who attended. I will be giving a similar presentation in Guernsey 27th January.

Very few bird records of note during an unseasonably warm and dry period. 1 Sandwich Tern in Longis bay 24th. Paul Veron reports a Siberian Chiffchaff from Barrackmasters lane 27th.

2016 Totals:

  • 13011 Birds ringed
  • 79 species ringed
  • 23 new species added to the Alderney ringing list
  • 183 bird species recorded this year
  • 5 species added to the list of the birds of Alderney.
  • Full breakdown of all our progress, records and events in the forthcoming annual report.

It is equally as impossible to thank all those who have contributed to our first year as it is to try to pick out specific highlights. Suffice to say I am very excited about embarking on our first full calendar year of operations, as we continue to wake the sleeping giant that is birding and ringing on this island.

From all of the ABO team.

HAPPY NEW YEAR !
