The overnight winds were a touch more easterly and this brought us a fall of migrants and a busy ringing session produced 238 new birds and 3 UK controls (Whitethroat, Willow Warbler & Reed Warbler).
The unusually strong autumn passage (for us at least) of Redstarts continued, taking us over 40 new birds ringed in the last 3 weeks.
Today’s ringing totals: Swallow 1, House Martin 2, Redstart 8, Whinchat 4, Robin 2, Dunnock 1, Tree Pipit 3, Blackbird 1, Willow Warbler 140, Chiffchaff 2, Blackcap 3, Whitethroat 36, Lesser Whitethroat 1, Garden Warbler 9, Sedge Warbler 8, Reed Warbler 8, Grasshopper Warbler 1, Spotted Flycatcher 3, Pied Flycatcher 1, Great Tit 1 & Goldfinch 1.
The best of the visual migration was a Merlin chastened by Swallows.
