Following the success of a trial spring ringing course at the Alderney Bird Observatory, we are going to run a second trial course in the Autumn. Initially inviting applications from Channel Island ringers but opening up wider audience if the course is not filled.
The format of the autumn course will be slightly different in that delegates will need to arrange their own travel, find their own accommodation and arrange their own food. The observatory will provide ringing sites, tuition, training and support from experienced UK and CI trainers.
Brief Outline
The course will run daily with mist netting, spring trapping and other trapping methods being used to catch in the main passerines and near passerines, with three sites available. Mist netting will take place from dawn until catching stops. Other activities may be undertaken after mist netting in the afternoon should opportunities arise. There will be talks and discussions arranged for each evening at a location where all can meet on various subjects such as moult, trapping techniques, ageing and sexing, identification and other subjects.
The course will run from 21st to 27th September 2026.
The cost of the course is £200
To ensure a quality experience and maximum learning for delegates there will only be eight places available. If you are interested and would like to book a place please contact Paul Roper, This email address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it.
We will keep this course open exclusively to Channel Island ringers until 30th June, any remaining places will then be opened up to all ringers.
